Therapeutic Science as a field of study reflects what the
World Health Organization has identified as a new paradigm for understanding and studying disability (WHO, 1998). The emphasis here is on understanding the consequences of health conditions for the person, rather than the health condition itself.
Therapeutic Science is an interdisciplinary program that involves faculty in a variety of departments and schools throughout the University of Kansas. This program is part of a growing trend to provide inter-disciplinary doctoral-level training to address issues related to disability. The KU doctoral program in Therapeutic Science is administered through the Department of Occupational Therapy Education in the KU School of Allied Health.
