MOT Program: Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for admission into KU's MOT Degree Program, the following are required:

1. Prerequisite Coursework
   Ninety (90) semester hours of prerequisite coursework must be completed prior to the start of the MOT program in summer session (June). Of these, at least 6 semester hours must be numbered 300 (junior level) or above.
   
   Please note: prerequisites may not be concentrated into a limited amount of time. By the end of the fall semester, the student must have completed at least 32 semester hours of required coursework including at least 3 semester hours of prerequisite science coursework. Students without 32 hours of credit by the start of spring semester will not be considered for admission. Please be advised that the University of Kansas transfers a maximum of 64 credit hours from accredited community colleges.
   
   
2. Grade Point Average
   An overall 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0-scale is required. In addition, student transcripts must document a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in all prerequisite courses.
   
   Only grades earned in required prerequisite courses will be used to compute the admitting GPA. The University of Kansas and the Admissions Committee will NOT disregard grades of classes that have been repeated in the last 5 years. They will be averaged into the admitting GPA as appropriate. All prerequisite coursework completed in the five years prior to admission will be considered. The applicant must also have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA on all college coursework completed through fall of the year they apply to the MOT program (cumulative GPA).
   
   
3. "C" Grade or Higher
   A passing grade is required in all prerequisite courses. A “D” is not considered a passing grade.
   
   
4. Work Experience with Special Needs Individuals
   Applicants must provide documented completion of 40 hours of volunteer work or paid work that involves direct contact with individuals with special needs accumulated over the last five years.
   
   
5. CPR/First Aid
   All accepted students must submit copies of current, valid CPR and First Aid certification prior to the program start date. CPR certification must cover the entire lifespan (infant, child, and adult). Accepted students are responsible for maintaining current, valid CPR status throughout the duration of the MOT degree program.
   

International Students: Additional Requirements
You are considered an international student if you require a visa, or are currently reside in the U.S. with non-immigrant status, or currently residing in the U.S. and applying for permanent resident. International students may require additional admission documentation, test scores and/or course work evaluation.

If English is a second language, applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and arrange for scores to be sent directly to the KU Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science.
