1. How many students do you accept each year?
At the present time, we accept only 4 students per year. Since ours is a twenty-one month program, we have a total of 8 students during the fall and winter semesters and 4 students during the summer semesters.

2. What are the costs of the education at KU?
Tuition for the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Program in 2005-06 was two-thousand, eight-hundred dollars ($2,800.00) per semester for the 5-semester, 21-month program. For information on fees and other costs associated with an education at KU, please see our informational packet. All program costs are subject to change. 3. How much competition is there for the available positions in the program?
Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography is a growing field with excellent prospects for employment (Employment for cardiac sonographers is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2008*). As such, many people are interested in the program, making it competitive.
However, prospective students must have both the prerequisites and the motivation to complete the application process. Therefore, we encourage everyone who has the prerequisites and is interested to complete the application process. Only those who have completed the application process can be considered for the program.

4. Is there a time limit on prerequisites?
No. It does not matter when you completed a prerequisite as long as it was earned at an accredited college or university.

5. Do I have to have a medical background to be considered for the program?
No. However, careers in health care require significant personal commitment. Experience in the medical field gives the applicant important insight into the level of commitment necessary for success in our program and in the medical field in general.

6. What job opportunities would a graduate have?

7. Can I work while attending the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Program?
Students or sonographers-in-training are not prohibited from being employed outside of the
program provided that this work does not interfere with their regular academic
responsibilities. Some of our students work part-time and others do not. None of our
students at the present time have chosen to work full-time during the program. [back to top]
